Vignyan Industries limited, Tarikere was incorporated on 25 September,1965 as Private limited Company, The Company was later converted into Public Limited Company in January 1966.The Company was set up with Polish Collaboration ' CENTROZAP' to manufacture Steel Castings for the Railway Sector and Heavy Engineering Sector and Steel Ingots for Steel Rolling Mills. The unit became sick and closed down in December 1974. The Government of Karnataka took over the administrative control and handed over day to day management to BEML, A Central Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence, Government of India. VIL was reradiated with the assistance of financial institution and became a deemed Government Company from January 1975. Consequent upon acquisition of 74.45 % of share in VIL during October 1984, the Company became a Subsidiary of BEML.
The VIL was referred to BIFR IN 1992-93 and BIFR has declared it as a sick Industry company under Sick Industries Companies Act 1985. The BIFR, in June 1995, sanctioned a rehabilitation package for revival of the company and the package is being implemented by the Company.
Now , VIL is viable unit as net worth has become positive, at present it has got sufficient order in hand both from BEML and other outside parties. The company is going to start the Exports by this year end.
